Vision Statement:

I am ready to serve as the ASCE Technical Region Director. In addition to representing the eight Institutes and Technical Activities (TAC) as their representative on the Board of Direction, I will promote continued cooperation between the Institutes and the Sections. I have a dedicated commitment to ASCE as demonstrated by my continuous service over the past 20 years as a student leader, Houston Branch president, Texas Section president, Region 6 Governor, and Construction Institute president. Throughout my service to ASCE, I have come to recognize the needs of our many diverse Institutes and Geographic regions. As a contractor, I put the ideas and technical advancements of all Institutes into practice. As a Technical Region Director I plan to:

  • Support Younger Member and Student Activities.
    • Continue to support the successful Student Days programs and expand ASCE’s support to more schools.

  • Increase the impact of Institutes on the ASCE.
    • Promote active participation by Institutes in already established Multi-Region Leadership Conferences.

  • Develop effective processes between publications, conferences, and Institutes.
    • Streamline process to publish and present.

  • Advocate for state-of-the-art information technology.
    • Provide for technology to allow for the increased use of Webinars, Facebook, and Twitter to make sure the Institute’s messages are distributed widely.

As Chief Business Development Officer for Sterling Construction an ENR Top 400 Contractor (No. 106) and one of a few publicly traded heavy civil construction companies, I am able to cross the county meeting with owners, engineers, and contractors. In this role, I assemble top-notch design-build teams to win projects. As in business, results are just as important within ASCE. I understand the importance of personal connections and the necessity of supporting our student members as well as the constant need to streamline procedures to benefit all members. I understand that meetings without purpose and results are meaningless. I will conduct the Technical Region meetings in the same disciplined manner.

The role of the Institutes is vital to the continued growth of ASCE. Collaboration between ASCE Sections, Branches, and Institutes to improve programs is imperative as competition from increasing specialty industry groups grows. ASCE must ensure its dominance as the organization of choice for the engineering and construction industry. As a part of the ASCE commitment to our student and younger members, I will continue to encourage planning and implementing student and younger member programs.

If elected, I will make a difference.
