Jack A. Raudenbush, P.E., M.ASCE
Region 2 Governor-Elect
ASCE fulfills two major roles for our membership: increasing public awareness of issues affecting civil engineers—including our nation’s infrastructure needs—and the education and professional development of our members.
My Vision for ASCE is to fully support these initiatives at the local, regional, and national levels. My company’s motto is “Working Hard, Working Smart”, and this is exactly what I proposed to do to advance the Society’s goals.
I believe that to achieve ASCE’s “Vision for Civil Engineering in 2025” and to follow the “Roadmap to Achieving this Vision” we must engage in straightforward dialogue with potential and existing ASCE members, our more senior members, and elected officials from local, state and federal government.
I know that Region 2 members, simply by their geographic location, work closely with the members of the U.S. House and Senate to pursue legislation and funding packages to benefit our nation’s road, bridge, water and wastewater infrastructure. I have met with the Chair and members of the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and will continue to meet with this most important governing body to discuss relevant issues and to represent ASCE.
I support the need to increase the body of knowledge necessary to become a civil engineer, and the need for continued professional development for licensed engineers. As a voting member of the Pennsylvania State University Capital Campus Civil Engineering Advisory Board, I will advocate ASCE’s position of increasing academic requirements for civil engineers.
A few other activities that I will undertake in pursuit of our Vision include:
- Attend all section meetings in Central PA and attend at least one meeting each year at other Section/Chapter meetings within Region 2
- Attend each ASCE National Conference during my tenure
- Attend all Leadership Conferences involving Region 2
As a vocal bridge, I will explain to section leadership the pursuits necessary to attain the National Vision and those congruent with mine.
I am prepared to invest time and effort to fulfill these goals. My support will be shown through the energy and participation I put forth in Governors’ meetings as well as meetings of the local Sections within Region 2. A quote from the Roadmap boils down how we achieve the Vision: “hard work, leadership and heart remain the foundations for success.” This quote fits my mold, fits my plan, and fits my vision for ASCE.
I will work hard and work smart for ASCE.
