ASCE Chooses Atypon Platform for the ASCE Library

RESTON, Virginia--11 January 2012—The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) announced today that it has selected Atypon’s Literatum™ publishing platform to power the next generation of the ASCE Library. The new platform will launch third quarter 2012.

The new ASCE Library will make use of Atypon's latest innovations in publishing technology to become a single destination for all ASCE technical content. The new platform will be augmented by powerful discovery tools including taxonomic browsing and data visualizations, placing ASCE firmly at the center of civil engineering knowledge.

The ASCE Library is the most extensive resource for civil engineering research and application-oriented content, with more than 86,000 technical and professional articles from 33 ASCE Journals (1983 to the present), and more than 300 Conference Proceedings. ASCE publishes approximately 7,000 new articles in the ASCE Library each year.

"The ASCE Library is the most-respected and richest collection of civil engineering content in the world," said Bruce Gossett, Managing Director of Publications for ASCE. "With Atypon serving as our strategic partner, we will be able to integrate book with journal content and add best-in-class social media and discovery tools. The ASCE Library will evolve into a user-centric research and learning environment."

"Innovation is deeply embedded in Atypon's DNA, and we're passionate about helping our clients develop the next generation of information products," said Gordon Tibbitts, President of Atypon. "ASCE will benefit not only from our technology, but from our thought leadership, and we from theirs."

ASCE will keep the library community informed of our progress as we move through the transition.
