ASCE copyrighted content includes all ASCE publications: journal articles, proceedings papers, books (standards, manuals, committee reports, ASCE Press), Civil Engineering magazine, and ASCE News. ASCE content may be used as follows:
Reuse in book or textbook
This permission allows you to publish the ASCE copyrighted content in a book or textbook. Book permission is limited to the edition specified during the order process.
Reuse in journal or magazine
This permission allows you to reproduce ASCE copyrighted content in a journal or magazine. Permission will not be granted to republish an entire article in another journal or magazine.
Reuse in conference proceedings
This permission allows you to reproduce ASCE copyrighted content in a non-ASCE conference proceedings. Permission will not be granted to republish an entire conference proceedings paper in another conference proceedings paper.
Reuse in promotional material
This permission allows you to reproduce the ASCE copyrighted content in a brochure, flyer, or poster created for promotional purposes. Any such use may not imply an endorsement by ASCE of a commercial product, service, or supplier.
Reuse in presentation or slidekit
This permission allows you to reproduce the ASCE copyrighted content in a presentation or slidekit.
Reuse in coursepack
This permission provides a license for an academic institution to reproduce ASCE copyrighted content as part of a coursepack. Coursepacks are compilations of related articles prepared as supplemental materials for a course of study at a school or university. If the request is for an online coursepack, the site must be password protected and posted for the semester only.
Reuse in training material
This permission provides a license for for-profit or non-profit organizations to reproduce ASCE copyrighted content as part of their training materials. If the training material is posted online, the site must be password protected.
Reuse in masters/doctoral thesis
This permission allows a masters/doctoral degree candidate to republish the requested content in his/her doctoral thesis. This permission is free of charge.
Reuse in government report
This permission allows you to reproduce the ASCE copyrighted content in a report prepared for federal, state, or local government. Such use does not negate ASCE's copyright interest by placing the work in the public domain.
Intranet posting
Intranet posting permission allows you to post the ASCE content to your organization's intranet, which is password protected and not open to the public.
Internet posting
Internet posting of an entire ASCE copyrighted article or book is strictly prohibited. We do, however, allow internet posting of limited excerpts or figures, tables, charts, or images. The total number figures, tables, charts, or images is limited to 8.
Reuse in documentary or TV program or movie
This permission allows you to reproduce the ASCE copyrighted content in a documentary, TV program, movie, or any audio/video production.
Photocopy
Photocopy permission allows you to photocopy the ASCE copyrighted content. Photocopy permission does not include online or digital reproduction.
Reprint
Reprints are an exact replica of the article as it appears in the ASCE publications. We require that any reprint order should have a minimum of 25 copies. Rightslink® does not handle reprint services. Please contact ASCE Permissions directly.
