Sustainable Solutions for Emerging Markets: Technology, Innovation & Livelihoods
Register and for more information
Offered by engineering 4 change and made available through ASCE’s partnership with E4C.
Developing adaptable, accessible, appropriate, and affordable products, technologies, and solutions for emerging markets is rapidly becoming a critical skill for professionals in all disciplines. Engineers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and policy-makers alike are facing a changing global landscape in which the GDP of the developing world will be surpassing that of the developed world (estimated 2016 - Economist). 76% of the world's 6 billion mobile phones are geographically in emerging markets (World Bank), and reverse innovation is increasingly becoming a normalized process for developing solutions for the western world.
Global trends demand sustainable solutions. In E4C’s June 5th webinar, Radha Basu will discuss from her uniquely credentialed perspective about how technology solutions can be fused with self-sustaining models for large, scalable, positive impact. Whether it is in mobile money, agriculture, livelihood development, medical devices, clean water, or sustainable energy, participants will discover that through a well-informed design innovation process coupled with mindful core competencies, sustainable solutions for emerging markets can be successfully pursued.
Presented by: Radha Basu, Director, Frugal Innovation Lab, Santa Clara University

Hosting an eLearning Webinar - What Can eLearning Offer You?
About eLearning: eLearning is a recent Member Benefit developed in 2010 to offer FREE Webinars. These Webinars are for topics not covered in Continuing Education Webinars or Seminars. Members can not earn CEU/PDH for eLearning Webinars. Previous eLearning Webinars have covered a range of topics from career development, training for ASCE Sections and Branch leaders, and trenchless design. Webinars should be informative, and should not be exclusively for selling an item, such as a particular type of construction equipment. These Webinars are a great opportunity to provide members with an introduction into topics specific to your institute, and to help engage members to become more involved. Also, these are free for you to host!
About the Webinars: Webinars may be up to one hour in length. The format is a PowerPoint slide show with audio provided by the speaker. Slide shows can include video clips. Webinars are interactive: you can include poll questions for participants, and attendees can submit questions to the speaker electronically during the Webinar. Your Webinar can be less than one hour; most hosts intentionally save at least 10 minutes for Q & A at the end.
Following the airdate, Webinars will be archived for viewing on the eLearning Website for 90 days.
What you do: Come up with a topic, find a speaker/host, and submit your completed eLearning Webinar Request form to the eLearning team 8 weeks prior to your desired air date.
What we do: Work with Continuing Education and our Webinar vendor to secure your date and your training session. We handle the administrative aspects of the Webinar, such as making sure your materials are submitted to our vendor by the deadlines. We also market your Webinar through broadcast e-mails, eNews, SmartBrief, Section Informant, and on the eLearning page of the ASCE Website.
Please send your comments or ideas for future webinars to elearning@asce.org.
