Purpose of the Geomatics Division
To provide leadership, within the engineering profession, for the acquisition and management of spatial data required as part of scientific, administrative, legal, and technical operations for surveying, cartography, photogrammetry, multi-purpose cadastre, remote sensing, and geographic information systems; to foster the development of policy, guidelines and specifications; to encourage the advancement of geomatics education; and to foster the dissemination of information.
Congratulations to David Wahlstrom, J.D., F.ASCE--2011 recipient of the Surveying and Mapping Award at the ASCE Annual Conference in Memphis, Tennessee.

David A. Wahlstrom, J.D., F.ASCE, Chair
Spatial Data Applications Committee
Purpose: Provide resources to improve understanding by engineers (current and future) regarding advancements in Geomatics to apply spatial data to improve efficiency in civil engineering design and construction.
Michael Olsen, Ph.D., A.M.ASCE, Chair
Spatial Data Accuracy Committee
Purpose: The Committee on Spatial Data Accuracy is charged with reviewing spatial data accuracy standards for surveying engineering applications in the light of new technology and computational models. Given the burgeoning use of 3-D digital spatial data in most facets of civil engineering practice, current (analog) accuracy standards need to be evaluated for compatibility with newer digital methods and applications. The charge specifically includes development of guidelines for the establishment and use of spatial (and geospatial) data accuracy standards in engineering applications and geographic information systems.
