Organization:
The Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) shall consist of no more than ten (10) Society members with as near as possible that mirror today’s diverse society.
Members shall be selected on the basis of an interest in, as well as a knowledge and understanding of the issues related to diversity and inclusion in the engineering profession
• Two (2) members shall be selected from the group of current or past Geographic Region Governors and current or past Institute Board members.
• One (1) member shall be a Younger Member.
• At least four (4) Regions shall be represented.
• Members shall normally serve three (3) year staggered terms.
• Other factors to be considered are the issues of diversity identified in the ASCE Policy Statement, Achieving Diversity and Equity. Members shall also be representatives of the private, public and academia sectors.
Responsibilities:
The Committee on Diversity and Inclusion shall be responsible for:
• providing the Society with leadership in all matters of diversity and inclusion
within the civil engineering community
• shall promulgate and implement programs designed to encourage equitable opportunity for full participation of all people within the civil engineering profession
• shall proactively partner (through joint outreach, information sharing and external strategic partnerships), with other Board of Direction committees, Institutes, and with other affiliated organizations, to maximize effectiveness and minimize duplication of efforts in areas of mutual interest related to matters of diversity and inclusion, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality or physical challenges
