In recognition of the tremendous strides civil engineering students are making to improve the quality of life for all, ASCE in partnership with the National Engineers Week Foundation, announced our Inaugural New Faces of Civil Engineering College Edition honorees and our New Face of Engineering College Edition ASCE representative.
ASCE’s 2012 New Faces of Civil Engineering College Edition honorees are third, fourth, and fifth year college students (from across the nation) who represent some of the best and brightest college civil engineering students and whose academic successes and contributions to the humanity are already poised to make an impact. Among the 2012 honorees are a nurse turned civil engineering student, a violinist, a pioneer in Earthquake engineering simulation and consulting engineers who focus on landfills, green buildings, wastewater treatment, and water quality in disadvantaged communities.
ASCE shared the nomination packages of our honorees with the National Engineers Week Foundation steering committee for their selection of the 2012 New Faces of Engineering College Edition recognition --which includes representatives from the civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, industrial and manufacturing engineering professions. Danielle Antonellis (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) was selected by the National Engineers Week Foundation to be recognized as the civil engineering representative amongst the 2012 New Faces of Engineering College Edition. As president of her university’s Habitat for Humanity chapter, Danielle helped raise $11,000 to benefit the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. As part of her recognition, Danielle will receive ASCE’s $500 scholarship.
Gretchen Heberling (University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyo.) and Steven Wong (Columbia University, New York, NY) were selected as runner-ups for the National Engineers Week Foundation’s New Faces of engineering recognition.
ASCE 2012 President Andrew W. Herrmann, P.E., SECB, F.ASCE sent a special congratulatory message to all of the New Faces honorees stating that they each are an inspiration to future generations of students seeking a career in which they can make a difference.
A big CONGRATULATIONS to each one of our 2012 honorees!
