February 4, 2009 - ASCE Letter - Boxer-Inhofe amendment to H.R. 1, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

February 4, 2009

Dear Senators Reid and McConnell:

RE: VOTE ‘YES’ ON THE BOXER-INHOFE AMENDMENT
TO THE AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) urges you to vote “yes” on the Boxer-
Inhofe amendment to H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

This amendment would redirect funding that would otherwise expire at the end of fiscal
year 2009 as well as unobligated balances from programs appropriated throughout the
legislation that have not been obligated within a year of enactment. These funds would
then be redistributed to states to spend on drinking-water and wastewater infrastructure
and highway and public transit programs, based on priority lists of projects that are ready
to go to contract within 120 days.

ASCE recently gave the nation’s infrastructure a D based on its overall physical
condition.

Help protect public safety and renew our deteriorating infrastructure by supporting the
Boxer-Inhofe amendment today.

Sincerely yours,

Brian T. Pallasch
