The Honorable John Mica
Chairman, HouseTransportation and Infrastructure Committee
2163 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Chairman Mica:
On behalf of the more than 140,000 members of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), congratulations on your selection as Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,. ASCE stands ready to work with you during the 112th Congress as you move to address the infrastructure crisis that faces our nation.
The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the 112th Congress will need to address a number of key issues including a multi-year surface transportation authorization, the FAA reauthorization, a new Water Resources Development Act, and the reauthorization of the nation’s Dam Safety program. While each piece of legislation carries with it a unique set of challenges, the dangers of a crumbling infrastructure to the nation’s public safety and economic health are significant.
ASCE and its members are committed to improving the nation’s public infrastructure in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of the public. Daily, ASCE members are on the front-line of dealing with America’s crumbling infrastructure and know the benefits of making the needed improvements. With such transformative and significant legislation on the horizon in the 112th Congress, ASCE looks forward to your continued leadership on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
We would like to request a meeting with you and your staff in January in order to discuss the status of the surface transportation authorization. Attending the meeting would be Kathy Caldwell, ASCE President, Patrick Natale, ASCE’s Executive Director, and Brian Pallasch, the Managing Director of
Government Relations and Infrastructure Initiatives. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support, we look forward to meeting with you. Please contact Brian Pallasch at 202-789-7842 or at bpallasch@asce.org to arrange a meeting.
Again, congratulations. ASCE looks forward to the opportunity of working with you now, and in the coming years, to rebuild America’s infrastructure.
Very truly yours,
Patrick J. Natale, P.E. Kathy J. Caldwell, P.E.
Executive Director President
