Help Civil Engineers Hit by Natural Disasters
In the last several months, the nation has witnessed a series of natural disasters of historic magnitude, ranging from severe flooding to F5 tornadoes. Civil engineers have responded to these events in a variety of ways, from working to mitigate the effects of flooding on populated areas to participating in rescue and recovery efforts and studying the aftermath for lessons learned to improve public safety.
Unfortunately, these extreme events have also taken their toll on ASCE members and their families who live and work in the affected areas. In Alabama, for example, there has been a significant impact on the student community. Some student members have lost their homes and possessions, while other have been forced to cancel summer employment to aid their families and neighbors in the recovery effort.
To demonstrate support for ASCE members affected by these disasters, ASCE has established a relief fund to aid those who have experienced hardship as a result of these events, and will match your contributions to this fund, up to a total of $10,000. Make your contribution today. To request assistance, please contact ASCE's Nancy Berson at email@example.com.
