Terence E. (ED) Richardson
Terence E. (Ed) Richardson is Chief Operating Officer of Tri-Alpha Energy, a company developing advanced energy production technology. Prior to joining Tri-Alpha Mr Richardson spent 33 years with Bechtel Corporation where he served in a number of executive leadership positions with the company including managing Bechtel’s 7000 person global engineering workforce leading development of technologies and work processes to position the company as a leader in engineering.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Richardson was President of Bechtel Civil Company and Executive Vice President of Bechtel Systems & Infrastructure, Inc. (BSII). From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Richardson served as President of Bechtel Infrastructure Corporation (Binfra). Bechtel Civil performs major civil infrastructure projects for customers worldwide, and BINFRA performs civil infrastructure projects in North America. Mr. Richardson served from August, 1993 to October, 1995, as Senior Vice President and Manager of Operations for Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), a technology-driven and systems engineering focused company. He also served as President of Bechtel Nevada Corporation from October, 1995 to November, 1996 where he was the General Manager for the Nevada Test Site. Mr. Richardson returned to San Francisco and resumed his position as Manager of BNI Operations.
Prior to accepting the position in BNI, Mr. Richardson served as Manager of Engineering for the Gaithersburg Regional Office (GARO) from July, 1990 to September, 1993. As Manager of Engineering for GARO, he was responsible for management of a 2,500-person engineering department with offices in eight locations. He managed engineering design for all of Bechtel’s business lines east of the Mississippi, and power work in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
From March, 1977 to July, 1990, Mr. Richardson served in Bechtel’s Power Division at locations in Norwalk, CA; Augusta, GA; and Houston, TX. He was manager of Engineering and Engineering Manager of projects in Bechtel’s Power Division in the Houston Regional Office (HRO). He was responsible for technical direction; staffing and support of power projects; chemical projects; waste-to-energy and space projects. Also, his tenure in the Power Division took him to the Vogtle Electric Generation Station, Units 1 and 2, located in Augusta, GA as the Project Engineering Manager responsible for management of a two-unit nuclear station.
1975 to 1977, before joining Bechtel, Mr. Richardson worked for United Engineers and Constructors in Philadelphia, PA where he developed design criteria; performed management level design reviews; designed nuclear systems; procured equipment and supervised piping and equipment layout.
Before Mr. Richardson’s civilian career began, he served in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Officer in Submarine Force. In the U.S. Navy, he served in various nuclear engineering management positions in three nuclear submarines. He conducted a two-year shipyard overhaul and directed turnover, startup testing, and operation for all Nuclear and Balance of Plant Systems.
Mr. Richardson holds a BS degree in Naval Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy; a MSA in Management Engineering from George Washington University; and a MS in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic Institute. He also is a Professional Registered Engineer in 16 states, as well as the District of Columbia. Mr. Richardson served on the Engineering Advisory Board for the University of California, Berkeley; the Engineering Board for California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; and served as Chairman of the Board for the Industry Leaders Council of ASCE.
Mr. Richardson and his wife, Betsy, have two daughters and one son, and reside in Orinda, CA.
