Congressional Action in the 112th Congress

The multi-year surface transportation bill which Congress has operated under since 2005 expired this past October. A series of short-term extensions has kept the program running since then.  The current (seventh) extension expires September 30, 2011.  A new six-year reauthorization of federal highway and transit programs is now being developed by both the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
