Christine F. Andersen currently serves as the director of public works for the City of Long Beach, Calif. The department's central focus is to maintain the city's infrastructure and design, and construct public improvements, operate the Long Beach Airport, manage solid waste and provide fleet services citywide. In her current position, Anderson manages six bureaus: Administration, Planning and Facilities, Airport, Engineering and Street Maintenance, Environmental Services, Fleet Services, and Traffic and Transportation.
Andersen's previous experience includes acting city manager of the City of Boulder, Colo., where she provided direct support to the mayor and eight City Council members, and was responsible for management of all city operations. As director of public works of the City of Eugene, Ore., she was responsible for overall operation of the city's seven public works divisions, including engineering design and construction management, and metropolitan wastewater treatment plant operation.
She has served as president of the Oregon State Board of Engineering Examiners, as a member of the board of directors for the American Public Works Association and as a peer reviewer for the American Society of Civil Engineers. She is an active member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors, serving on numerous committees, and is also a member of the Transportation Research Board and the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
Andersen received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and pursued post graduate studies in civil engineering at the University of Vermont.
