The History & Heritage Committee reported directly to the Board of Direction from its creation in 1964 until this year. As noted in earlier Newsletters the Committee now reports to the Committee on Advancing the Profession (CAP). The charge of that committee is to advance the civil engineering profession and the professional practice of civil engineers. The constituent committees of CAP are:
Raise the Bar (a Strategic Initiative committee)
History & Heritage Committee
Public Agency Peer Review Committee
Ethical Practice Committee
Leadership & Management Committee
Committee on Sustainability (a Strategic Initiative Committee)
The first face-to-face meeting of CAP with the chairs (or representatives) of each constituent committee was held on January 12, 13, 2013 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. David Gilbert was the representative from the H & H Committee. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways in which to implement the re-organization. Each constituent committee member described the workings of their committee to CAP. However, there remain many unknowns about how CAP will coordinate with the constituent committees. One concern of H & H is the question of who will approve the nominations for National and International Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks – CAP or the Board. We will keep you posted on the evolution of this re-organization.
