Wulf Grote, P.E. M.ASCE, is the Director of Planning and Development for Valley Metro Rail, Inc (METRO), the agency responsible for development and operation of a light rail system in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. METRO operates a 20-mile light rail line and is currently developing five additional high capacity transit corridors. Wulf is responsible for programming, planning, design and construction for all METRO projects.
Through 2008, Wulf worked for 24 years for the City of Phoenix Public Transit Department, serving as the Assistant Public Transit Director between 2000 and 2002 and as a Deputy Director from 1986 to 2000. While with the City, he directed the development of Phoenix’s initial light rail project, first on loan to the Regional Public Transportation Authority and later on loan to METRO.
In prior years Wulf directed Phoenix’s transit capital program, which included development and maintenance of bus passenger and operating facilities, rail development, bus fleet planning, fleet and equipment procurement, and bus operations studies. He also worked for six years as a transportation engineer in Denver, Colorado with DeLeuw, Cather, and Company and with the Regional Transportation District.
