Walter Kulyk, P.E., M.ASCE, is Director, Office of Mobility Innovation, Federal Transit Administration, Washington, DC. He has over 30 years experience in managing federal research, demonstration, and technical assistance programs involving transit system implementations and operations. He is currently in charge of transit research and demonstration programs involving Bus Operations and Advanced Drive Propulsion Subsystems; Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), including those affecting bus and rail; the Bus Testing Program; Bus Rapid Transit Operations; and Maglev. Mr. Kulyk began his professional career as an Air Force Officer on active military duty in charge of base civil engineering construction and rehabilitation projects. He is Chair of the Public Transportation Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Transportation and Development Institute, and Chair of the Intermodal and ITS Experts Group under the Transportation Working Group of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. He is also actively involved in a number of other committees with national organizations including the American Public Transportation Association, ITS America, and the U.S. Academy of Sciences’ Transportation Research Board.
