Melissa Wheeler is an engineer with over 16 years experience in the electric utility industry. Melissa joined Georgia Power Company’s Metro North Distribution Engineering Team in October 2010 where she manages multiple distribution projects for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The most rewarding part of her job is keeping the lights on by participating in restoration efforts. Previously, Melissa was a senior member of the Project Controls group where she was responsible for budgeting and scheduling all Transmission Capital projects for South Georgia and Coastal region areas. Since joining Georgia Power in 1995, she has also held positions of Environmental Affairs Coop Student, Transmission Maintenance and Reliability engineer, Transmission Line Design engineer, and Metro Transmission Maintenance Center line engineer.
Melissa graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999, where she received a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering. She is very active promoting the civil engineering through the American Society of Civil Engineers where she currently serves as a Region 5 Governor representing the states of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida. In 2007, Melissa became the youngest and first female President of ASCE Georgia Section, and recently, the Georgia Engineer’s Week Committee named her the Georgia Engineer of the Year in Industry for 2011.
