Local Engineer, Bruce W. Berdanier Elected to National Civil Engineering Society’s Regional Governing Board

Reston, Va. ― Bruce W. Berdanier, Ph.D., P.E., L.S., a professor and head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at South Dakota State University, was recently elected a governor of Region 7 of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Region 7, one of the Society’s ten regional governing boards, represents members from Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. Berdanier began his term on Oct. 1, 2010. 

Prior to becoming head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at South Dakota State University, Berdanier was an associate and assistant professor at Ohio Northern University and assistant professor at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.  

Within ASCE, Berdanier is a member of the Committee on Scholarship and has served as an advisor for the Ohio Northern University Student Chapter. In 2006, he was named Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year by the Toledo Section. 

Berdanier received his bachelor’s degree in water resources from Ohio State University, his master’s degree in environmental engineering from Purdue University and his doctorate in environmental engineering and hydrogeology from Ohio State University. Berdanier is registered as a licensed professional engineer and surveyor in Ohio and South Dakota. He is a resident of Brookings, S.D.
