RESTON, Va., --Dr. Robert L. Bowen, P.E., Founder and Chairman of Bowne Engineering Corporation, will be honored by the American Society of Civil Engineers for his lifetime achievement in construction. He will be recognized at the Society’s annual Outstanding Projects and Leaders awards dinner March 22 in Washington, D.C.
A graduate of Purdue University, where he received his civil engineering degree, Dr. Bowen has received honorary doctorates from Purdue and the University of Evansville.
After graduating from Purdue, Dr. Bowen was hired as a project manager at the W.M. Lyles Company in Fresno, CA, where he stayed for five years before returning home to Indianapolis to found the Bowen Engineering Corporation.
Bowen has also served as president of the Associated General Contractors of Indiana.
Together with his wife, Terry, they helped Purdue University raise the funds necessary to build the 50,000 square foot Bowen Laboratory for Large-Scale Civil Engineering Research
In 1997, Bowen and his wife started the Bowen Foundation which has awarded more than $750,000 in college scholarships for minority students.
