This Geotechnical Special Publication contains seven papers on the effects of earthquakes on foundations and abutments. With the increased use of displacement-based analysis and design, the evaluation of seismically induced foundation and abutment movement has become a topic of great interest. Empirical, experimental, and analytical approaches to the prediction of seismically induced foundation and abutment displacement are presented. Papers also discuss the remediation of existing foundations to mitigate seismic hazards.
