Proceedings of the Fourth Congress on Computing in Civil Engineering, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June 16-18, 1997. Sponsored by the Committee on Coordination Outside ASCE of the Technical Council on Computer Practices of ASCE.

This collection of 92 papers examines various areas of computing in civil engineering, including information technology in construction, analysis and simulation in transportation, multimedia in engineering education, Internet information systems in the A/E/C industry, geographic information systems in transportation engineering, computer technology in the classroom, computer-aided design and drafting, and multimedia knowledge-based systems applications. Other topics include integrated, computer-based tools for construction management; technology for traffic operation, control, and highway design; multimedia teaching aids and presentation software; development of Web-centric systems for collaborative engineering and new communications strategies; structural design for safety in a computer integrated system; neural network applications in structures and infrastructure; expert systems in environmental engineering; and genetic algorithm applications.
