Policy
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) believes that post-construction drawings showing the location and layout of civil engineering projects should be performed by licensed surveyors and/or licensed Professional Engineers.
Issues
The health, safety, and welfare of the public can be compromised by the failure to properly record the location of engineered projects.
Rationale
Accurate post-construction surveys and record drawings, showing the location and layout of civil engineering projects are valuable means to verify substantial compliance with the design documents as well as inventory and record keeping for the owner and the public. These drawings are important sources of data for future alterations or extensions of such civil engineering projects. ASCE recognizes that licensed Professional Engineers and licensed surveyors are the best qualified to prepare these drawings.
