Illinois Section—Sustainable Structures Lecture Series
March 2, 16, and 30 and April 13, 2011, Chicago
Paper Topics: The Illinois Section’s structural group is soliciting abstracts for what will be the 19th installment of its biennial lecture series. The lectures for 2011 will deal with sustainable structures. Abstracts are welcomed on any relevant project involving the analysis, design, construction, inspection, or maintenance of structures that incorporate sustainable practices as a key component of the project. The topics include building, transportation, energy, or specialty structures. The sustainability elements need not be structural in nature.
Deadline: Abstracts of no more than 300 words are to be submitted by October 15, 2010. Additional information may be obtained at www.isasce.org/web/technical/structural.html.

Special Issue, Leadership and Management in Engineering: Moving toward Partnerships—The Challenge for Emerging Master Builder Engineers
Paper topics: This special issue invites papers addressing such topics as facilitating and leading multidisciplinary collaborative programs using a systems approach; applied sustainable practices, design, and life-cycle financial support; application of innovative technologies and information management tools to create solutions in the built and natural environments; effective communication of risks and mitigation options to protect colleagues, clients, regulatory agencies, and the public; design strategies for the long term; and leadership approaches for engineering education in the 21st century.
Deadline: Abstracts are to be submitted no later than September 15, 2010.
