Version 2.0 of Sustainable Infrastructure Rating System

Sustainability Ratings for Engineering Projects

As a key part of its mission to advance sustainable practices, the American Society of Civil Engineers worked jointly with the American Council of Engineering Companies and the American Public Works Association to develop the EnvisionTM Sustainable Infrastructure Rating System, launched in January 2012. Read about EnvisionTM. Administering the rating system is the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure.

Get Credentialed as an Envision™ Professional

Credentialing to become an Envision™ Professional and training to master the Envision™ Sustainable Rating System is now available. To assure that a cadre of skilled professionals is available to help infrastructure projects satisfy Envision sustainability certification requirements, the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure is offering training and credentialing programs. Earning the designation of Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV PV) could not be easier. The training modules, tutorials, and testing are all available online. The Envision Sustainability Professional credential requires:

  • Successful achievement of a four year degree in engineering, architecture, the sciences, sustainability, or a related curriculum
  • Completion of ISI conducted computer-based courses on Envision and its use
  • Successful passage of an online, open book exam on the use of Envision
  • Submission of all applicable fees

Application instructions, application form, online training, and exam are available at www.sustainableinfrastructure.org.

ISI Project Application Information Now Available

Project application information is now available on the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure website. The website provides an outline of the application and verification process and the associated fees. It also describes the awards that ISI will use to recognize projects that attain high levels of achievement in using the EnvisionTM Rating System.

Third party evaluation of the sustainability of civil infrastructure projects is the primary purpose of the Envision™ Rating System. While the Envision™ Rating System can be used as a template to guide project planning, ISI's independent, third party Project Verification Program is a transparent and publicly acclaimed process to confirm that a project meets the Envision™ evaluation criteria. ISI projects that it will begin accepting project application September 1, 2012. More details will be available on the ISI website soon.
