By Justin M. Arndt, P.E., M. ASCE, Chair, Central Geographic Member

 ASCE Committee on Younger Members

2013 Committee On Younger MembersFall brings about a new year in ASCE.  It is a time that we look back at the past year and look forward to the year ahead.

The Committee on Younger Members (CYM) has also accomplished a lot this past year.  We have been able to provide leadership training at the ASCE Annual Conference in Montreal, Younger Member Council meetings in Milwaukee, Sacramento and Warwick, the ASCE Legislative Fly-In, and President and Governors Forum.  We are also working on student transition packets and a portable Younger Member display for Younger Member Groups to use locally.  In addition, we will be unveiling new Younger Member YouTube videos at the 2013 ASCE Annual Conference in Charlotte.

CYM is saying good-bye to two wonderful people: Michelle Everett and Clement Chung.  Michelle has served on CYM the past four years as our Student Relations Member.  She has been a constant conduit to help transition students to Younger Members.  Clem has served the past three years as the Eastern Geographic Member.  He is also a past chair of CYM who has worked tirelessly to serve the Younger Members of Regions 1, 2, 4 & 5.

As we look forward to the year ahead.  Serge Haddad will become chair of the committee.  Serge serves as the Western Geographic Member and serves Younger Members in Regions 8 & 9.  We look forward to his leadership and passion to serve Younger Members.

WhittenbergerWe also welcome two new members to the committee.  Renee Whittenberger will join the committee as the Student Relations Member.  Renee is a Bridge Engineer for ms consultants, inc. in Akron, Ohio.   She is a graduate of the University of Akron with BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering.  Along with her local ASCE activities, Renee currently serves as the Member Communities Committee and has previously served on the Committee on Student Activities (currently the Committee on Student Members).Chrzan

Jeremy Chrzan will join the committee as the Eastern Geographic Member.  Jeremy is a Project Engineer in the Transportation Division at Pennoni Associates headquarters in Philadelphia. He is an honors graduate of Drexel University’s BS/MS program.  Along with his local ASCE activities, has served the past two years as a CYM Region 2 Corresponding Member.

We look forward to another wonderful opportunity to help younger Members engage and grow in ASCE.
