JAE Special Section on Housing and Residential Building Construction
The ASCE Journal of Architectural Engineering (JAE) is planning to have a Special Section on Housing and Residential Building Construction in three of its four editions per year. This new Special Section, which will cover various aspects of residential buildings, including but not limited to single- and multi-family dwellings, mid-rise and high-rise apartment buildings, dormitories, and hotels/motels. The Special Section papers that will go through a peer-review process include the following type of papers: technical research and development, technology transfer, case studies, and state-of-the-art review.
To submit a paper to the Housing and Residential Building Construction Special Section, please go to the following site: Editorial Manager. When you see the "Additional Information" section, in response to the following question: "Is this manuscript part of a Special Issue. If yes, please provide Special Issue title and guest editor name." Please type the following in the dialogue box: Housing and Residential Building Construction; Ali Memari.

Opportunity for Public Comment on
Development of NIST Measurement Science R&D Roadmap
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) recently published a report entitled: Development of NIST Measurement Science R&D Roadmap: Earthquake Risk Reduction in Buildings (NIST GCR 13-917-23). The report was developed by the National Institute of Building Sciences, Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) under a contract from NIST. The roadmap presents areas of engineering research associated with earthquake risk reduction in buildings that the report writers suggest as high priority for NIST accomplishment in its research role in the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). This report suggests research activities and funding levels for NIST to pursue for years 0-3, for years 3-5, and for years 5-8 of a multi-year research program.
NIST is providing an opportunity for the public to comment on the contents of this roadmap report. NIST will consider both the roadmap and any comments that NIST receives as it formulates its future earthquake risk reduction R&D plans. Comments may be submitted via the website, email, or regular mail. The process for submitting comments is detailed on the NEHRP website at Opportunity for Public Comment on Development of NIST Measurement Science R&D Roadmap. All comments must be received by 5 pm EDT on Friday, June 28, 2013.
Emerging Leaders Alliance (ELA) Leadership Conference
November 11 - 13, 2013
Interested in improving your leadership skills?
ASCE, as a partner in the Emerging Leaders Alliance (ELA), will sponsor 8 members to attend the 2013 ELA leadership conference. The conference provides rising leaders with tools to more effectively lead their organizations and serve our professional community. This program also allows you to network with engineers and scientists from other disciplines and earn PDHs. The workshop will take place on November 11-13, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Reston in Reston, Virginia, USA.
Interested ASCE members must apply for sponsorship online at: Application by July 1, 2013. For more information, visit: Emerging Leaders Alliance Conference or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
