is a Senior Associate with Hazen and Sawyer, PC in Raleigh NC with 25 years of experience in the evaluation and detailed design of water and wastewater treatment facilities. Melanie specializes in the application of UV disinfection technology, and has provided evaluations and/or design services for more than thirty UV disinfection facilities ranging from 5 mgd to 2200 mgd in capacity. Her UV experience includes UV equipment selection based on life cycle cost analysis, supervision of factory tests of UV equipment and associated UV system controls programming, supervision of UV system commissioning and operations, providing training to plant managers and operators on UV disinfection, and optimizing the operation of existing UV disinfection systems for performance and energy conservation. Melanie is currently responsible for UV disinfection equipment evaluation and process design at three municipal wastewater plants with peak treatment capacities of 35 mgd (Greenville NC), 115 mgd (Alexandria VA), and 225 mgd (Raleigh NC).
Melanie holds B.S. of Civil Engineering and Master of Civil Engineering degrees from North Carolina State University, and is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina and Virginia. She is a member of the American Water Works Association, the International Ultraviolet Association and the Water Environment Federation.
