Standards are developed by a consensus process managed by the Codes and Standards Committee (CSC). The consensus process includes balloting by the balanced standards committee, made up of Society members and nonmembers, and a public review period.
Codes and Standards Program
The Codes and Standards Program of ASCE is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) In April 1980, the Board of Direction approved ASCE Rules for Standards Committees to govern the writing and maintenance of standards developed by the Society.
The Consensus Process
The consensus process includes balloting by the balanced standards committee, made up of Society members and nonmembers, and a public review period. All standards are updated or reaffirmed by the same process at intervals not exceeding 5 years. ASCE's standards program is regularly audited to ensure compliance with the ASCE Rules for Standards Committees and that it is consistent with the fundamental tenets of ANSI.
The consensus process is managed by the Codes and Standards Committee (CSC). The standards committees are grouped by their general subject areas within one of the Institutes of ASCE.
