Thank you for your interest in becoming an ASCE / ABET program evaluator.
QUALIFICATIONS
ASCE's Committee on Curricula and Accreditation (CC&A) is responsible for appointing program evaluators to the rosters utilized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) used to make up the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) visitation teams. In considering new appointments to the ASCE rosters, CC&A requires individuals to possess the following qualifications:
- Professional registration in a state within the United States at the time of nomination and appointment.
- Must have practiced engineering for at least 10 years (industry, private practice, construction, government, engineering education, etc.) .
- Stated willingness to conduct visits and all associated activities in accordance with the requirements of ABET and ASCE.
- ASCE member in good standing in the Member or Fellow grade.
CC&A will give preference to individuals who possess the following qualifications:
- For Civil Engineering, a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related area from an EAC/ABET accredited program and a master's degree in civil engineering or related area, OR a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a master's degree in civil engineering or related area from an institution with an ABET accredited civil engineering program. For Architectural Engineering and Construction Engineering, an ABET accredited Bachelors Degree in Engineering.
- History of service to ASCE.
REQUIRED TRAINING
CC&A requires the following training to be completed prior to becoming an official ASCE Program Evaluator:
- Attendance at an ABET approved Accreditation Forum. To view the ABET Program Evaluator Training Calendar, please visit http://www.abet.org/pev_training.asp#3
- Participation in an ABET accreditation visit as an official ASCE Observer. The arrangements with the Observer, the university being visited and the ABET Team Chair will be coordinated by ASCE's Administrator of Curricula and Accreditation. ASCE will reimburse the Observer in accordance with ASCE's policy for travel. It should be realized that the ASCE per diem might not cover all expenses incurred.
- CC&A may consider other equivalent training and experience on a case-by-case basis.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Complete the ABET Online Program Evaluator Application. The applications are reviewed twice a year at the meetings of CC&A. CC&A will review all evaluator applications and all applicants will be notified of their status following the spring meeting of CC&A, generally held in late May early June.
