MIT Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Laboratory Technical
Tour
Get a first-hand look at how Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS) apply emerging hard and soft information systems technologies
to address and alleviate transportation congestion problems. MIT’s
ITS program, established in 1990, unites researchers from the Center
for Transportation Studies, the Departments of Civil and Environmental
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer
Science, and the Sloan School of Management to conduct multi-disciplinary
research on the applications of modern information technologies
to transportation systems, especially the conceptual design of intelligent
transportation systems and development of computer tools for design
and evaluation of ITS services.

MIT Age Laboratory Technical Tour
Visit the AgeLab, a multidisciplinary research-and-design shop that
was established in 1999 as a partnership with industry and the aging
community to develop new technologies to promote healthy, independent
living throughout the human lifespan. Research involves an array
of disciplines including engineering, computer science, human factors,
health and medical sciences, management, marketing, and the social
and behavioral sciences. All work is motivated by a shared belief
that the appropriate use of technology, along with innovations in
its delivery, can have a significant impact on the quality of life
for older people, their families, and caregivers. The AgeLab includes
the Driver 2020 Consortium, which seeks to understand older drivers’
needs, capabilities, and behavior, to ensure that driving technologies
are safe and easy to use.

MIT Media Laboratory Technical Tour
Tour the Media Lab, where research addresses the quality of life
in the information-rich environment of the future. The Media Lab
studies, invents, and uses enabling technologies for understanding
and expression by people and machines. Its work is rooted in modern
communication, computer and human sciences, with computers and computation
as the most prominent common denominators of this multi-disciplinary
merger of previously separate domains. Underlying the explosive
advances of the various technologies involved, it is discovering
and cultivating a new set of shared intellectual and practical concerns,
and exploring the technical, cognitive, and aesthetic bases of satisfying
human interaction as mediated by technology.
