Air Transportation

Ground Transportation
When arriving at Logan International Airport, you have many transportation options to the Boston Marriott Cambridge, which is 5 miles from the airport. Shuttle Service: A FREE Massport Shuttle Bus stops at all Logan Airport terminals and takes you to the airport subway stop on the “T” Blue Line. Take the Blue Line to “Government Center.” Switch to the Green Line for a quick trip to “Park Street.” Switch to the Red Line and exit at “Kendall/MIT.” Upon exiting the station, you are at the back door of the hotel. The trip takes about 30 minutes and costs US$1 via token, which can be purchased from an attendant in the booth at the airport subway stop. Taxis: Boston taxis are available at Logan terminals 24 hours a day. A taxi to the Boston Marriott Cambridge will cost US$20 - US$24.

Registration
All attendees are required to register for the Conference and pay appropriate registration fees. Pre-registration is discounted through 7/12/02 and strongly encouraged.

Speaker/Moderator Registration
All speakers and session moderators are required to register in advance for the Conference and pay appropriate registration fees. Once on site, all speakers and moderators should visit the Registration Desk to pick up badges and tickets.

Speakers’ Preparation Room
A Speakers’ Preparation Room for previewing visual aids will operate for the duration of the Conference. Speakers must confirm all audio-visual requirements in advance with the ASCE Conferences Staff. International Travel, Tips & Local Customs
A valid passport and visa are required of most visitors to the United States. Attendees should check with local consulates or embassies. If a letter of invitation is required to secure a visa, please e-mail your request (including your name, address, and fax number), to the ASCE Conferences Staff at conf@asce.org. Service charges or tips are generally not included in published prices in the United States. Restaurant servers, taxi drivers, etc., generally expect a tip of at least 15%. Smoking in public areas is usually prohibited. Smokers should seek designated smoking areas and rooms in hotels, restaurants, and other public places.

Shipments to the Hotel
Guests staying at the Headquarters Hotel may ship materials to: Boston Marriott Cambridge, Two Cambridge Center, Cambridge, MA 02142 USA. Materials must be clearly marked with the name of the guest, followed by “Hold for Arrival,” and arrival date.

Messages & Faxes
Messages may be directed through the Boston Marriott Cambridge at 617-494-6600. Please ask for the ASCE Conference Registration Desk. Faxes to guests may be sent to 617-494-0036. If the attendee is not a hotel guest, write, “Please deliver to the ASCE Conference Registration Desk” on the fax cover sheet.

Local Weather
In August, you can expect warm weather and some rain, with daytime temperatures ranging from 63° to 80°F.

Dress
Casual business attire is appropriate for most Conference events. Although jackets are not required for the sessions, they are advisable as meeting rooms are typically cool.

Meals & Refreshment Breaks
Several complimentary meal functions are included in your Registration Fee. Continental Breakfast will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday. A luncheon is scheduled for Monday and Boxed Lunch is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday. Refreshment Breaks take place throughout the Conference.

Proceedings
Published proceedings are included with Full and Speaker/Moderator Full registrations only. All others may order proceedings for US$50 when registering for the Conference. Proceedings will be available on-site.
