International Program

The International Program has been especially designed to introduce you to and immerse you in the Global Civil Engineering scene. In this year of ASCE's 150th Anniversary Celebrations, the program content has been enhanced to feature new activities and prestigious speakers representing organizations involved in global activities. Hernando de Soto, renowned author and President of Peru's Institute for Liberty and Democracy (ILD), will keynote the International Delegations Luncheon with the ASCE Board of Direction, Sunday, November 3. After presenting his provocative empirical findings from research in the developing world, de Soto will discuss implications for the infrastructure sector in the transformations he urges and the leadership role that the global community of engineers can play in the process.

The International Roundtable, a discussion forum for representatives of engineering societies around the world, will follow the luncheon. Discussion of this year's topic, Corruption in the Built Environment: Implications of Transparency on Engineering Quality, will be led by Peter Eigen, Executive Director, Transparency International, USA. A white paper will be made available to all participants and attendees.
