Keynote Address Tim Russert, Moderator of “Meet the Press”
Tim Russert is Moderator of “Meet the Press” and political analyst for “NBC Nightly News”
and the “Today” show. He anchors “The Tim Russert Show,” a weekly CNBC program that
examines the media’s role in American society. He also hosts the “Fred Friendly Seminars”
on PBS that explore complex, vital issues using the Socratic Dialogue format. In addition,
he serves as Senior Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief of NBC News.
Russert joined NBC News in 1984, first appeared on-air for NBC News in 1990, and took over the helm of
“Meet the Press” in 1991. Since then, “Meet the Press” has become the most quoted news program in the
world and its national audience has grown more than 40%, making it America’s most watched Sunday
interview program. In its 48th year, “Meet the Press” is also the longest-running program in the history
of television.
Prior to joining NBC News, Russert prepared for his career in journalism by broadening his political and
government expertise at work in the executive and legislative branches as Counselor in the Governor’s
office in Albany, NY and as Special Counsel in the United States Senate. He was admitted to the bar
in the State of New York and the District of Columbia.
