T-Rex Project - Denver, Colorado

T-REX is a multi-modal transportation approach that encompasses light rail, highway, bike, pedestrian, and other transit options in one Design-Build project. The focus of this presentation will be the Design-Build approach, which allows for flexibility and creativity in support of the project goals to:
  • Minimize inconvenience to the public
  • Keep within the project's $1.67 billion budget
  • Design and construct a quality project
  • Complete the project on or before June 2008

US 82 Bridge - Greenville, Mississippi

The new Greenville, MS bridge being constructed across the Mississippi River by Massman Construction Co. will be the longest cable-stayed span on the river when completed. It will have more than 2.5 miles of bridge deck, two concrete towers soaring 425 ft. above the river, concrete piers anchored 120 ft. into the riverbed, and four fans of prestressing-strand steel cable. This bridge will become a spectacular crossing over America's most storied river!

Marmet Lock and Dam, West Virginia

Kokosing/Fru-Con LLC holds a $222 million contract to upgrade the Marmet Lock and Dam on the Kanawha River in southwestern West Virginia. The project includes construction of a 110x800-ft. lock on the right descending bank landward of existing locks, a 1,000-ft.-long downstream guide wall, a 1,830-ft.-long upstream guide wall, and a 996-ft.-long upstream guard wall. Discussions will focus on the challenges of construction.

Georgia State Capitol Renovation

In 1996 sparked by the deteriorating condition of the Capitol's public corridor ceilings, the Georgia General Assembly appropriated funds to restore the Capitol's public spaces to their original simple and classic elegance. The work includes restoration of plaster, marble, and woodwork in the Rotunda, Atria, and public corridors; the return of decorative finishes to their original 1889 colors; and the addition of new lighting to supplement the original gas fixtures. Presentations will cover construction and design challenges encountered in renovating this historic building.

Equipment Management on the Atlanta Airport Runway Project

The fleet of 100 machines is being used to construct the fifth runway at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport. The equipment dealer providing the machines has retained responsibility for their maintenance and is using a web based GPS system to continually track machine location and condition.
