Rebuilding Together Event

Donelson Station Senior Citizens Center
108 Donelson Pike
Nashville, TN

Let's make a difference!

ASCE's Nashville Branch, the Committee on Volunteer Community Service, and Rebuilding Together®, an organization devoted to revitalizing houses for low-income homeowners, invite all ASCE members and their families to spend a day of community service while attending the national conference. This public event will give you a chance to make an impact in the local community by helping to improve the accessibility, safety, and functionality of the senior citizens center, as well as to improve some aesthetics of the space.

Donelson Station Senior Citizens Center, once an elementary school, now provides 950 seniors with a place to enjoy health and fitness programs, educational classes, social services, and the arts. The center also has outreach services such as Meals on Wheels. The auditorium is used for their own internal productions, as well as local arts group productions where the seniors usher and assist.

Put your engineering skills to work for a good cause! Currently, our scope of work includes building a wheelchair ramp at the rear entrance of the building, installing hand grips/rails at this entrance, painting the auditorium, and extending the stage out into the auditorium.

Transportation will be provided to the site from the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. The site is about 15 minutes from the Opryland Resort. The bus will pick-up participants at the Presidential Portico at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, and return them by 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Depending on the response, additional transportation will be provided back to the Opryland Resort earlier in the afternoon if people need to catch flights home. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided. A brief noontime ceremony will acknowledge the efforts of ASCE, Rebuilding Together® , and the Donelson Station Senior Citizens Center. The Vice Mayor of Nashville, Howard Gentry, Jr., will speak.

Please join us and help leave a lasting legacy in Nashville! Your participation will enhance the image and visibility of civil engineers and help this non-profit facility further meet the needs of its senior citizens.
