WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12 INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM: 12 NOON - 2:00 PM International Delegations Luncheon with the ASCE Board of Direction For the first time in 2002, during ASCE's sesquicentennial celebrations, the International Activities Committee (IAC) introduced the International Delegation Luncheon with the ASCE Board of Direction. The event was so successful that it will be featured again at Nashville 2003. Join us for a cordial luncheon, affording the opportunity for ASCE Board members and honored international guests to make an acquaintance and initiate conversations on professional matters of mutual interest. This year's International Luncheon promotes International Water Day. Thanks to collaborative efforts of the IAC and ASCE's Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI), the day will prove of immense value to the engineering community. Our luncheon speaker will offer relevant perspectives on financial and investment implications to the world and engineering community of the Water Resources Sector Strategy, recently approved by the World Bank Board of Executive Directors. He will also discuss the report of the World Commission on Dams.
LUNCHEON SPEAKER:John Briscoe Senior Water Adviser, The World Bank World Bank Board's Water Resources Sector StrategyMr. Briscoe's expertise covers water resource management, environmental engineering, and water supply dams. At the Bank, he is responsible for Bank-wide policies and analysis of selected operational work on water management issues. He is principal author of its 2003 Water Strategy. He also represents the Bank in major external water partnerships, such as the World Commission on Dams and the Global Water Partnership, and serves on the Water Science and Technology Board of the National Research Council of the US National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. Before joining the Bank, Mr. Briscoe was a water engineer and manager in South Africa, Bangladesh, and Mozambique, and taught water resources engineering at the University of North Carolina. Mr. Briscoe has published more than 80 papers in professional and scientific journals and authored four books.Official international delegates by invitation. Tickets:$40. 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM: International Roundtable The International Roundtable is the second international activity planned for the day. It will carry over the water issues introduced during the luncheon and expand the dialogue. It will feature a panel of illustrious speakers and a renowned moderator. All welcome! This forum for officers from ASCE's Agreement of Cooperation Societies (ASCE's international counterparts) airs issues of universal concern to civil engineers. One topic is decided in advance and each delegates relates how the topic is dealt with in his/her country. In 2002, some 26 delegates representing civil engi-neering societies from around the world took part. All Conference attendees are urged to attend this stimulating discussion. All participants and attendees will receive a white paper presentation on the issue of freshwater shortages and water pollution problems that will be analyzed and discussed at this forum.
