ASCE Foundation Estate & Financial Planning Seminar
Gather invaluable financial information and useful tips at the ASCE Foundation's free Estate and Financial Planning Seminar. Learn how estate and financial planning can benefit both you and Civil Engineering!

Janet Briaud, CFP, is a nationally recognized expert in financial planning. She speaks frequently at seminars and conferences including Texas A∓M University, NAPFA, and FPA.As President of Briaud Financial Planning, Janet has been included among Worth magazine's top financial advisors list since 1994. Financial Advisors magazine featured Janet in its July 2002 cover story. She is past National President and Chairperson of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors.

Because the estate tax limit has been raised substantially and will continue to rise, fewer people have sufficient assets for estate planning to be their primary need. Instead, more people are concerned about how to plan for retirement. In addition to providing information on how you can use wills, trusts, IRA's, and 401(k)s to support your retirement, your family's future, and charity, Ms. Briaud also will touch on investment cycles, the psychology of the markets, inflation and deflation, stock market valuations, demographic trends, and the declining dollar.

The Foundation also will offer free individual consultations on estate/financial planning issues with Ms. Briaud immediately following the Seminar and on Friday from 9:00 AM until 12 NOON.

The seminar and consultations are offered free, but space and time are limited, so please contact Jeanne Jacob, Executive Vice President, ASCE Foundation, at 703-295- 6346 or jjacob@asce.org to reserve space for yourself, spouse, and/or guest. ASCE Volunteer Community Service / Rebuilding Together®
ASCE's Committee on Volunteer Community Service , the Maryland Section's Younger Member Committee, the National Capital Section's Younger Member Forum, and Rebuilding Together®, an organization devoted to revitalizing houses for low-income homeowners, invite you to spend a day of community service at the 2nd annual community service event held in conjunction with the national conference. This public service event will give you an opportunity to make an impact in the local community by using your skills to enhance the Southwest Senior Center.

Last year's event in Nashville was a great success! ASCE members built a wheelchair ramp, painted an auditorium, and extended the auditorium stage at the Donelson Senior Center while enjoying each other's company and a sense of pride in their work.
Click the following link to view photos: http://www.asce.org/professional/commservice/rebuildgallery.cfm

This year, our goal is to improve the safety and functionality of the Southwest Senior Center. Our scope of work includes such projects as upgrading restrooms to enhance safety and access, improving flooring in a bathroom and kitchen, building computer workstations and storage to create a functional computer classroom, and completing other similar projects that enhance function and accessibility.

The Southwest Senior Center is located at 100 S. Calhoun Street in Baltimore and is a Baltimore City Senior Center. The center offers a variety of classes such as history, computers, and current events, hosts talks and health screenings, and provides lunch five days a week through the Eating Together in Baltimore City program. The center is dedicated to providing services which help to enhance self esteem and improve the quality of life for seniors in the community.

Transportation will be provided to the site from the Wyndham Baltimore - Inner Harbor. The site is about a 10 minute drive. The bus will pick-up participants at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, and return them by 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Additional transportation can be arranged back to the Wyndham earlier in the afternoon if necessary. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided. A brief noontime ceremony will acknowledge the efforts of ASCE, Rebuilding Together®, and the Southwest Senior Center. Please join us and help leave a lasting legacy in Baltimore! Your participation will enhance the image and visibility of civil engineers and help this non-profit facility further meet the needs of its senior citizens.

If you are interested in participating and putting your skills to work for a good cause, please contact Melissa Prelewicz at 800-548-2723 ext. 6341 or mprelewicz@asce.org.

The Administration on Aging has partnered on this project to help make it happen.
