This city's got it all for Civil Engineers!

Maryland's largest city will roll out the red carpet for Civil Engineers arriving for the Baltimore 2004 Civil Engineering Conference & Exposition, October 20-23, 2004. Yes, Baltimore is a bustling industrial city/seaport and home to the US spice trade and wonderful seafood restaurants featuring fresh steamed crabs from the Bay. Yet it is also a sprightly contemporary hub, with an affinity for Civil-Engineered works. It features railroad and infrastructure history, harbors/ports/dams, airports, bridges, and numerous natural and built environments.

Baltimore City's famed renaissance began at the Inner Harbor, where our Conference will be based. From there, you can easily stroll to...

  • Harborplace, the National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center, Walt Disney Imagineering's Port Discovery, the USS Constellation, and Little Italy; or hail a water taxi for a quick ride to Fells Point, an exciting waterfront community of 18th century cobble-stoned streets and restaurants overlooking the water.

  • Baltimore Museums dedicated to the Civil War, Industry, Public Works, and the B&O Railroad; or venture out to Fort McHenry where Baltimoreans held off an invading British fleet during the War of 1812 and inspired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner."

  • Babe Ruth Museum and Edgar Allan Poe's House and Grave; or visit dozens of monuments around the city - and understand why John Quincy Adams once dubbed Baltimore "The Monumental City."

  • Orioles' Park at Camden Yards and the Ravens'M & T Bank Stadium; or stay 'til October 24 to see the Ravens play the Buffalo Bills!

  • Have extra time? Tour Maryland! From mountains to the Bay, to the Atlantic Ocean,Maryland boasts a colorful assortment of outdoor activities, unique attractions, and historical landmarks, including Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, Ocean City, and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Or head a bit further south to visit the landmarks of Washington, DC!

There's so much for Civil Engineers to see and do before, during, and after the Annual Conference! And October is the perfect time time to visit: The famous eastern fall foliage should still be at peak color and Chesapeake Bay blue crabs promise to be available, succulent, and still in season! Don't miss all the exciting opportunities!!!
