Start your Friday morning off right by hearing Thomas M. Downs present the 2004 Francis C. Turner Lecture and receive the Francis C. Turner Award. Mr.Downs, who is President and CEO of the ENO Transportation Foundation, was formerly the Chairman, CEO, and President of Amtrak, a past Executive Director of the Federal Transit Administration, a past Associate Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration, and a past Commissioner of Transportation for the State of New Jersey.Mr.Downs has also been associated with the National Association of Home Builders as its CEO and the National Center for Smart Growth as its Director. Everyone is invited to join ASCE and the Transportation and Development Institute to honor this leader in transportation for his lifelong achievements.

SPECIAL WORKSHOP: Bus Rapid Transit Technology
ASCE’s Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) and its partners the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) will sponsor this focused workshop on an emerging technology for mass transit, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The workshop will cover land use elements of BRT, traffic engineering impacts of BRT, running way and station design, precision docking, lane vehicle guidance, and more.
Materials for the workshop will be based on the new Characteristics of BRT Manual currently being prepared by FTA, to become available in August 2004. Details for this workshop are still in development.
