Conference topics will focus on the science, tools, management, and solutions to:

  • Hurricanes

Multidisciplinary topics and papers are encouraged.

Science

Research and study of the forces and processes that cause or contribute to naturally and anthropogenically occurring coastal disasters.

Tools

Data and technologies available to help study or forecast coastal disasters
  • Models and methods (numerical, analytical)
  • Mapping techniques

Management

Policies, planning, and management efforts to minimize or avert coastal disasters, including:
  • Balance of economic, social, environmental, and technical interests on the waterfront
  • Comprehensive shoreline management programs
  • Land use planning and regulation
  • Evacuation procedures
  • Issues specific to ports and marinas

Solutions

Detailed examination of engineering and multi-disciplinary approaches to hazards, hazard mitigation, and the consequences of these approaches, including:
  • Buildings, infrastructure, lifelines & other structures
  • Case studies of completed projects
  • Post-storm event site evaluations
  • Investigations for a specific geographic region (i.e., Caribbean /Chesapeake Bay /Outer Banks)
  • Examination of disaster assistance programs and success of mitigation efforts

Cancellations
Cancellations must be received in writing at ASCE headquarters by April 15, 2005, to receive a refund of the registration fee. A $50 processing fee will be deducted from all refunds. Additional event tickets will be fully refunded if canceled in writing by April 15, 2005. THERE ARE NO CANCELLATIONS AFTER April 15, 2005.

Speaker Registration
All speakers are required to register for the conference in advance and submit a registration fee. A conference registration form with fee schedule can be found by clicking here. Speakers must check in at the conference registration desk to pick up badges and tickets.

A speakers' room for previewing visual aids will be in operation during the conference. Video computer projectors (LCDs) will be provided in each session room; however, you must bring your own laptop computer. For additional equipment, please contact the ASCE staff in advance. Conference Proceedings
The conference proceedings will be available in print. One copy of the conference proceedings is included with each Full Conference Registration fee. Additional copies may be purchased at $75.
