Coastal structures are undergoing a renaissance with significant innovation occurring on all fronts ? from environmental co-existence and habitat enhancement to beach fill retention and risk-based design. Modern coastal structure innovation and engineering is complex, exciting, and challenging. This conference brings together the diverse groups involved with coastal structures to exchange ideas, debate changes to existing design standards, improve design methods, discuss case studies, and share innovations. Professional technical papers, poster papers, panels, commercial exhibits, and other related events will foster a comprehensive exchange of information. A field trip to major coastal structures along the open Pacific coastline will reinforce discussions. Published proceedings will be mailed to all registrants following the conference.
The 2003 Conference is the fourth in a series of conferences that highlight the significant advancements in coastal structure innovation, design, and construction. The first ASCE Coastal Structures Conference was held in Alexandria, Virginia in 1979, the second in Arlington, Virginia in 1983, and the third in Santander, Spain in 1999. The Proceedings for these three conferences have yielded milestone works and have been frequently cited references in the field.
You are invited to join us August 26 - 29, 2003, in Portland, Oregon, to continue this tradition and advance innovation in coastal structures and beach preservation. This Conference is sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI).
We look forward to seeing you in Portland!
