For years the Shore Protection Manual (SPM) has provided guidance for design and construction of coastal structures. The SPM was recently replaced with the new Coastal Engineering Manual (CEM), which features updated and expanded design guidance based on research from around the world. Understanding how to apply the new design formulas - and recognizing the differences between the new methods and those of the SPM - is crucial for engineers and planners involved in coastal structure projects.

ASCE and COPRI's Coastal Engineering Practice Committee is sponsoring a one-day course focusing on design of coastal structures using the new Coastal Engineering Manual. The purpose of the course is to introduce practicing engineers to some of the changes that are being incorporated into the CEM and to highlight differences from the old SPM. The focus of this course is coastal structures with topics ranging from project formulation to design of structure elements. You will earn 6 PDHs by attending the course.

The course fee is $200 for conference registrants and $250 for those not registered for the Coastal Structures Conference. Save $50 by registering by August 4. The course fee includes copies of instructor handouts, two refreshment breaks, and lunch. Please use the registration form on this site to register for this pre-conference seminar.
