Instructions for Speakers and Moderators
|
The official acceptance of your paper will be mailed to you via US Postal Service at the end of October. If you do not receive this confirmation, please feel free to contact us at one of the addresses below.
You will receive an email at a later date, which will tell you what day and time your session is scheduled for.
Now:
- Please register and pay the appropriate fees to participate in the Deep Foundations Congress. As you know, the conference is self-supporting, and so it is critical that all speakers and session moderators do this. Please register as a "Speaker" even if you are a member of ASCE or one of the Cooperating Organizations to take advantage of the best rates, and so we know that all of our Speakers are going to be with us! And register early, before January 22, to take advantage of the VERY best rates. You can also print out the registration form and fax it to 703-295-6144.
- Make your hotel reservations. You can use the access code 5476 and make them online at the Rosen Plaza Hotel, or you can call 800-627-8258 or 407-996-1703. Or fax to 407-996-9119. Special conference rates are available through January 22, 2002.
- Fill out the Speaker Biography form. This will be used by the moderator to introduce you at your session.
- Fill out the Audio-Visual Information/Request Form. We must receive this by January 31, 2002, or you may have to pay a fee for the equipment that you need. If you need more or different equipment than is on the form, please contact Leah Kaplowitz at 703/295-6014 or lkaplowitz@asce.org. Laptop computers will NOT be provided at the conference. You should plan on bringing your own, or contact your session moderator in advance to arrange to use one.
- Speakers: Prepare your presentation. Extensive guidelines have been developed for your reference. Please take advantage of these in order to have the best presentation possible.
- Moderators: Prepare your session. Guidelines for this have been prepared for your reference. Please take advantage of these in order to have the best presentation possible.
- Bring your own electrical adapter if
needed, as they are not available in the United States for use
here. Also be sure to bring a backup of any computer
presentations on a disc or CD.
- Be sure to prepare your presentation for the allotted time
limit (17 minutes maximum in general paper
sessions.)
When you get to Orlando:
- Check into the Rosen Plaza Hotel.
- Come to the Deep Foundations Registration Desk during our hours of operation to pick up your registration packet, badge, proceedings and speaker/moderator ribbon.
Moderators: Bios received for each of your speakers will be sent to you in advance of the conference, if available. Bios received onsite will be made available to you, as well as blank forms, at the speakers breakfast.
- Drop by the speaker ready room at any time that it is open to prepare one last time for your presentation and to check your audio-visual aids. We will have a Caramate slide viewer, a limited number of carousels for use with 35mm slides, an overhead and an LCD projector and screen. If possible, please bring your slides already arranged in your own carousel.
- Attend the Speakers' Breakfast on the
morning of your presentation. There, moderators and speakers can
meet and resolve any last-minute questions. Information of
interest to all
