International Fellowship Reception & Icebreaker / Section & Branch Welcome in Exhibit Hall
You are cordially invited to drop by the Exhibit Hall for substantial hors d'oeuvres and a casual toast to all who have arrived in Anchorage to attend this Congress. Participation from around the globe proves that the world grows smaller every day and that there is no greater experience than meeting international colleagues in person.The International Fellowship Reception provides the opportunity for colleagues from around the world to greet members of the International Cooperation Council (ICC) and welcome Dr.Marwan Haddad of Palestine, Dr. Chandan Mahanta of India and Dr.Guilherme Fernandes Marques of Brazil.These International Fellows, who were competitively selected by the ICC's Visiting International Fellowship Task Commit tee, will participate in the Congress and in additional professional and cultural exchange activities during their visit to the United States. The ICC established the Visiting International Fellowship program to promote cultural and technical exchange between EWRI members and international colleagues from developing countries.This marks the program's fifth year.

OPENING PLENARY & KEYNOTE BREAKFAST
Your official welcome to Alaska and the Congress will be delivered by Michael A. Ports, P.E., D.WRE, P.H., F.ASCE, President of EWRI, and invited guests Mark Begich,Mayor of Anchorage, and Loren Leman, P.E., Lieutenant Governor of Alaska and Honorary Congress Chair.General Congress Chair Don Phelps, P.E., will be MC. There will be real Alaskan experiences throughout the Congress. Over a seated breakfast, you will meet our Keynote Speaker, Martin Buser, four-time Iditarod Sled-Dog Race Champion. (He hopes he will have five wins by the time we meet in Anchorage!) Let Mr.Buser inspire you as he describes in vivid color what it takes to be a champion. Deborah L.Williams, Executive Director of the Alaska Conservation Foundation, will also present area insights.

2005 JULIAN HINDS WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AWARD LECTURE

This lecture will be presented by the author of the paper judged to make the most meritorious contribution to the field of water resources development, or an individual for notable performance, long years of distinguished service, or specific actions that advanced engineering in the field of planning, development, and management of water resources.The award consists of a plaque, certificate, and cash prize.

2005 VEN TE CHOW HYDROLOGIC ENGINEERING AWARD LECTURE

The Ven Te Chow Award recognizes lifetime achievement in the field of hydrologic engineering that is distinguished by exceptional achievement and significant contributions in research, education, or practice.The awardee will present the lecture on a hydrologic topic and will, in turn, receive a crystal plaque, certificate, and cash prize, following the morning's breakfast.

Tipton Breakfast & Awards
2005 ROYCE J. TIPTON IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE ENGINEERING AWARD LECTURE

This award is made annually to an ASCE member who has made a definite contribution to the advancement of irrigation and drainage engineering in teaching, research, planning, design, construction, or management.The contributions may have been made as papers or other written presentations, or thorough notable performance, long years of service, or specific actions to advance the science of irrigation and drainage engineering.The award includes a plaque and certificate. Breakfast will precede the award lecture.

2005 HUNTER ROUSE HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING AWARD LECTURE

Hydraulic engineering's premier lectureship, endowed through personal contributions by engineers and engineering firms throughout the world, will be presented at this breakfast event.The winner receives a certificate and cash prize.

Social Event at the Alaska Native Heritage Center
Please join us for an authentic Alaskan Cookout - a Salmon Bake - with Native Alaskan Entertainment at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, five traditional village sites surrounding a two-acre lake.The Center offers an array of experiential cultural learning programs, from films and exhibits to appearances by storytellers, dancers, and local artisans, and an enactment of the Inuit's blanket tossing game. The Center warmly welcomes its visitors and will ensure that you spend a worthwhile and enjoyable evening here sampling foods indicative of the area, and leave with a greater appreciation for Alaska's indigenous peoples.
