Your official welcome to the Congress and to Omaha will be delivered in person by Steven R. Abt, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, P.H., F.ASCE, EWRI President 2005-2006, and Jim Suttle, P.E., Omaha City Councilman. General Congress Chair C. Dale Jacobson, P.E., DEE will emcee. You will have the opportunity to hear the Keynote Address, presented by James B. Gulliford, Region 7 Administrator for the US Environmental Protection Agency. As regional administrator since September 2001, Gulliford has been the interface between EPA headquarters in Washington and the citizens of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. Gulliford had 25 years of prior professional experience administering environmental programs in agricultural and mining arenas. He received a bachelors in forestry management and a masters in forestry economics and marketing from Iowa State University. He worked in mine reclamation and environmental protection programs at Iowa State and Southern Illinois University until 1982, when he became Director of Iowa's Department of Soil Conservation, and, eventually, Director of the Division of Soil Conservation when his department merged with the Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. You will be in the audience for the presentation of the prestigious Environmental & Water Resources Institute Lifetime Achievement Award. Established in 2001, the Lifetime Achievement Award is presented each year to members who are judged to have advanced the profession, exhibited technical competence, and significantly contributed to public service, research, or practice in the environmental and water resources profession. Winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced onsite. Included for all Full, Monday-Daily, and Student Registrants. MONDAY, MAY 22, 2006 • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PMAAWRE reception The American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE) (www.aawre. org) was created in 2004 by members of the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute. AAWRE is dedicated to improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the profession of water resources engineering. The Academy accomplishes these objectives through the development and oversight of a voluntary, post-licensure, specialty certification program for water resources engineers. AAWRE invites you to join its nearly 180 AAWRE Diplomates and enjoy an elegant reception in honor of those who recently earned the Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) credentials. Freese Lecture will by offered by an eminent environmental engineer selected to receive the recognition along with a certificate and cash prize. Tipton Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Award Lecture This award is made annually to an ASCE member who has made a definite contribution to the advancement of irrigation and drainage engineering in teaching, research, planning, design, construction, or management. The contributions may have been made as papers or other written presentations, or through notable performance, long years of service, or specific actions to advance the science of irrigation and drainage engineering. The award includes a plaque and certificate. Breakfast will precede the Tipton Lecture, with additional EWRI awards to be made at this time. A Tuesday Awards Breakfast is included for all Full, Student, and Tuesday-Daily Registrants. WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2006 • 7:30 AM - 8:45 AMHinds Breakfast & Awards2006 Julian Hinds Water Resources Development Award Lecture This lecture will be presented by the author of a paper judged to make the most meritorious contribution to the field of water resources development, or an individual for notable performance, long years of distinguished service, or specific actions that advanced engineering in the field of planning, development, and management of water resources. The award consists of a plaque, certificate, and cash prize. Breakfast will precede the lecture, and additional EWRI awards will be made at this event. A Wednesday Awards Breakfast is included for all Full, Student, and Wednesday-Daily Registrants. WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2006 • 7:30 AM - 8:45 AMChow Breakfast & Awards2006 Ven Te Chow Hydrologic Engineering Award Lecture The Ven Te Chow Award recognizes lifetime achievement in the field of hydrologic engineering that is distinguished by exceptional achievement and significant contributions in research, education, or practice. Following the morning's breakfast and presentation of EWRI awards, the Chow awardee will present the lecture on a hydrologic topic and will, in turn, receive a crystal plaque, certificate, and cash prize. What could be more fun than a evening's escape to the zoo! Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo – a leader in animal conservation and research – will be the venue for our evening event. We will have exclusive access to the world's largest nocturnal display, "Kingdoms of the Night," and the world's largest indoor desert, the "Desert Dome." Along with these fabulous exhibits, we'll enjoy a casual dinner, and the opportunity to spend unstructured time with colleagues and friends, as well as to forge new relationships and alliances. The presentation of EWRI Service, Section & Branch, and Student Awards will cap our evening. Limited number of tickets available! Tickets are $25 and include transportation to and from the event, private entry to the Kingdom of the Night and the Desert Dome exhibits as well as dinner and drinks.
