Short Courses

On Saturday, September 24, participants will be offered a choice of short courses to improve their understanding of the practical aspects of karst. Certificates of attendance, which may be used for professional development hours, will be provided. Each course will last from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with appropriate breaks. Handout materials will be provided.
  • An Introduction to the Engineering and Environmental Aspects of Karst, presented by Barry F. Beck, Ph.D., P.G., and Wanfang Zhou, Ph.D., PG., P.E. LaMoreaux & Associates, Inc.
  • The Application of Geophysics in Karst Terrane, presented by Richard Benson, P.G., Technos, Inc.
  • Grouting in Karst Terrane, presented by the Grouting Committee of the Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
  • Geologic Assessments of Karst Areas (with Particular Reference to the Requirements of Texas 213), presented by Susan D. Hovorka, Ph.D., P.G., of the Texas Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas.
