About the Conference

The Ports 2004 Conference, "Port Development In The Changing World," will be the tenth in a series of international port and harbor development specialty conferences held on a triennual basis since 1977. This conference is co-sponsored by the Ports and Harbors Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Coasts, Oceans, Ports and Rivers Institute (COPRI); and the U. S. Section of the Permanent International Navigation Association Congress (PIANC). The conference will be cohosted by the Port of Houston Authority (PHA).

Port and harbor facilities development is undergoing exciting and significant challenges in response to the world's ever changing conditions and events. An encompassing array of professional technical papers pertinent to the progress of port and harbor facilities development will be presented at the Ports 2004 Conference. These presentations are expected to address the complex, innovative and state-of-the-art technical aspects associated with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of worldwide port and harbor facilities. A diverse group of attendees involved in the successful development and operations of port and harbor facilities will attend this conference. The group will exchange ideas; debate points of view; discuss case studies, methods, procedures, standards and techniques; and share experiences, innovative solutions, knowledge and lessons learned. To promote attendee interaction, the conference will include concurrent technical sessions for paper presentations, an exhibition, technical field tours, and other related special events. Conference proceedings will be provided to all full conference registrants as part of the registration fee.

Special emphasis is placed on continuing this conference's tradition of providing a practical international and national forum for presenting issues related to ports and harbors, inland waterways and navigational improvements. Join us May 23- 26, 2004, in Houston, Texas, to continue the tradition of the nine prior Ports Conferences.
