Alberto Alemán Zubieta graduated from Texas A&M University with dual degrees in industrial and civil engineering. Born in Panama City, Republic of Panama, he began his professional career in the field of construction at a very young age. He served as CEO of one of the largest construction companies in the country before undertaking a career change in 1996 to become the Administrator of the Panama Canal under U.S. government authority. As Canal Administrator, Alemán Zubieta is responsible for achieving maximum efficiency in the administration, operation, and maintenance of the Panama Canal. He is fully committed to transforming the Canal enterprise into a world leader in services to the maritime industry, cornerstone of the global transportation system, and a model of excellence, integrity, and transparency.

Alemán Zubieta's lifetime career achievements have also won him many awards and recognitions, including the William Ross Medal, CAPAC's most prestigious award, Federal Engineer of the Year Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers, Businessman of the Year 2002 from the Panamanian Business Executives Association (APEDE), and the Friendship Award from the U.S.-Panama Business Council.

This lunch will also include the presentation of the highly regarded Moffatt-Nichol Award. This award was established in 1977 and was endowed by the firm of Moffatt & Nichol Engineers, in honor of John G. Moffatt and Frank E. Nichol.
