Unsaturated Soils 2006 will promote the exchange of knowledge in the mechanics of unsaturated soils in these areas:

Laboratory Studies: Laboratory testing for strength, volume change, Soil Water Characteristic Curve, fluid and gas flow in unsaturated soils

Field Studies: Field suction measurements, penetration testing, pressuremeter testing, foundation testing

Modeling: Physical (centrifuge, calibration chamber), theoretical, constitutive, analytical and numerical modeling

Geotechnical Design and Remediation: Foundations, retaining walls, slopes, earth dams, pavements, expansive soils, collapsible soils

Geoenvironmental Analysis: Alternative cover systems, contaminant transport, waste disposal, including radioactive, municipal, industrial and mine waste
